New Metrics in Local Rank Tracker: Powerful Ranking Insights at a Glance

By Kristian Bannister

Let’s be real—nobody has time to comb through endless data points just to figure out how their local SEO efforts are performing. Whether you’re managing local SEO for a small business or handling multiple clients, you need quick, actionable insights. And that’s exactly what we’re delivering with the new features in Local Rank Tracker.

These updates aren’t just about giving you more data; they’re about giving you the right data, right when you need it. So let’s break down how these new metrics can save you time and help you make smarter decisions faster.

Introducing Your Performance Snapshot

First things first: we’ve introduced a new Overview section at the top of your reports. Think of it as your local SEO dashboard on steroids. It’s packed with metrics that give you a bird’s-eye view of your ranking performance, helping you quickly spot changes and track your progress over time.

Each metric comes with extra goodies—click on any tab to dive into charts and data behind the numbers. If you’re showing this to clients or stakeholders and want to keep things streamlined, you can even choose to hide this section from external reports.

Get More Context Around Rankings with Keyword and Positional Movement

Let’s talk about the stars of the show: Keyword Movement and Positional Movement. These metrics are your go-to tools for understanding what’s really happening with your rankings.

Keyword Movement

This metric is straightforward—it shows you how many of your keywords moved up versus how many moved down. It’s like checking the scoreboard to see if you’re winning or losing.

Example: If 20 keywords moved up and 15 moved down, your Keyword Change would be +5. Simple, right?

Positional Movement

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Positional Movement tracks the number of positions gained or lost across all your keywords.

For instance, if a keyword jumps from 8th to 3rd place, that’s a gain of five positions. The Positional Change is the sum of all positions gained minus all positions lost. This metric gives you a deeper understanding of your ranking shifts, beyond just the number of keywords that moved.

Example: Even if your Keyword Change was only +5, your Positional Change might reveal a gain of 43 positions overall—suggesting a significant increase in visibility.

Why does this matter? Because just knowing how many keywords moved up or down doesn’t always tell you the full story. Ten keywords each moving up a single position might have less impact than five keywords each jumping ten spots. Context is everything.

Track Your Local Pack Coverage Like a Pro

Local Packs are the holy grail of local SEO. They’re prime real estate on the SERP, and now you can easily track how many Local Packs you’re claiming with our new Google Local Pack Coverage metric.

How It Works

This feature tells you how many of your tracked keywords trigger a Local Pack and, more importantly, how many of those packs you’re dominating. Want to see which Local Packs you’re missing out on? Just scroll down to the Rankings Table.

If you spot a keyword just outside the Local Pack positions, you’ve got an opportunity to make a move. Or if you notice a keyword that’s dropped out, it’s time to investigate why.

Ready to Level Up?

These new metrics in Local Rank Tracker aren’t just shiny new toys—they’re powerful tools designed to make your life easier and your SEO strategies more effective. Whether you’re looking to impress a client or optimize your own business’s local visibility, these features give you the quick insights you need to make data-driven decisions.

And this is just the beginning. We’ve got even more exciting updates coming your way, so stay tuned!
