Live Google Business Profile Audit with Krystal Taing

Ever wonder what a Google Business Profile (GBP) expert would do if they got their hands on your business’s profile? Well, wonder no more. We recently hosted a killer live session where Krystal Taing, a Google Product Expert and Global Director of Solutions at Uberall, teamed up with our very own Claire Carlile to drop some serious knowledge on how to audit and optimize GBPs, especially for multi-location businesses.

If you missed it, don’t sweat it. I’m here to break down the highlights, so you can walk away with actionable tips to take your local SEO game to the next level.

What’s the Big Deal About GBP Audits?

Let’s start with the basics. Your Google Business Profile is more than just a digital business card—it’s your frontline soldier in the battle for local search dominance. If you’re not optimizing it, you’re leaving money on the table. Krystal walked us through why regular GBP audits are essential, especially for multi-location businesses that have to juggle different addresses, services, and customer reviews.

The Gym Scenario: Getting Sweaty with GBP Optimization

First up, Krystal took on a health and fitness gym—a classic brick-and-mortar setup. Here’s the kicker: even though gyms are all about physical presence, your online presence is what gets people through the door.

Krystal’s Top Tips for Gym GBPs:

  1. Categories Matter: Make sure your primary category is spot-on. For a gym, it should be something like “Fitness Center” or “Gym,” not “Health Club” if that’s not what people in your area are searching for.

  2. Attributes Are Your Friend: Utilize attributes like “Women-owned” or “Free Wi-Fi” to stand out in search results.

  3. Photos, Photos, Photos: Keep your imagery fresh and high-quality. Showcase your space, equipment, and even your staff. People want to know what they’re walking into.

The Hybrid Business: Service-Area Meets Brick-and-Mortar

Next, we dove into a hybrid business that offers both a physical location and a service area—think of something like a HVAC company with a showroom. Here’s where things get interesting because you need to cater to two different types of customers.

Krystal’s Playbook for Hybrid Businesses:

  1. Service Area Precision: Clearly define your service area in your GBP to avoid confusing potential customers about where you operate.

  2. Multiple Locations? No Problem: If you have multiple locations, make sure each has its own GBP, but keep the information consistent across all profiles. Consistency is key to building trust.

  3. Special Hours: Don’t forget to update your special hours for holidays or events. You don’t want people showing up at your showroom when it’s closed.

Why Regular Audits Are Non-Negotiable

Here’s a truth bomb: the digital landscape is always changing, and what worked for your GBP last year might not cut it today. Krystal emphasized the importance of regular audits to ensure your information is current, your categories are still relevant, and you’re making the most of new features that Google rolls out.
