We all know that adding pictures to anything on the web grabs a person’s attention and increases engagement. The same goes for your Google Business Profile (formerly known as Google My Business). Google openly tells you that adding pictures and posts helps give visitors visual information about your company—and who doesn’t love that? In fact, according to Google, businesses with recent photos typically receive more clicks to their websites.
But here’s the kicker: if photos are great, then videos are the gold standard. Video is so engaging that you don’t even need sound. Did you know that 85% of Facebook videos are viewed without sound? Just the movement of a video is enough to stop a person from scrolling.
Now, you might be thinking, “Sure, that sounds great, but I don’t have the budget for a big production.” Relax! You can now create a 30-second video that grabs attention right where it matters: on Google. Recently, Google announced that they’ve added video capabilities to Google Business Profiles! If you haven’t added a video about your business yet, it’s time to get started.
How to Upload Google Business Profile Videos
Uploading videos is a breeze. Google Business Profile allows videos up to 30 seconds long, and you can add videos both as a business owner and from customers. Here’s how you can get it done:
Login to Your GBP Account: Head over to your Google Business Profile dashboard, where you’ll see all the locations you manage.
Select Your Business Location: Click on the location where you want to add your video.
Add Your Video: You’ll either see the ‘Add Videos’ option on the Overview tab or click on the blue plus sign to add your video.
Upload Your Video: Drag the video you want to upload or select it from your computer—super simple!
Google mentions that it might take up to 24 hours for your uploaded video to display, but we’ve seen videos load in just a few minutes—which is fantastic!
One key point to remember is that your videos need to be relevant. They should be taken at your business location and feature either your team or aspects of your business. No cheesy stock photos or videos allowed! Google will remove any videos that don’t meet these criteria. After all, your Google Business Profile is about showcasing the real personality and culture of your business.
If you want to remove a video, just click the trash can icon next to it, and you’re good to go.
Once uploaded, your videos will show up alongside your local photos, making it easier for customers to engage with your business. As a bonus, if you have two or more videos, they’ll have a dedicated subtab on mobile devices.
Video Guidelines for Google Business Profiles
Before you hit upload, make sure your videos meet these essential guidelines:
Max Duration: 30 seconds
Max File Size: 75 MB (this was reduced from 100 MB as of October 2020)
Min Resolution: 720p
Pro Tip: We’ve found success uploading videos that are longer than 30 seconds, but it’s best to keep them concise to maintain viewer interest.
Video Ideas That Work
Stuck on what kind of videos to create? Here are some ideas that’ll resonate with your audience and keep them engaged:

Give a virtual tour of your office

Handling Inappropriate User-Generated Content
One common concern is that customers might upload inappropriate videos or content to your profile.
